Daily Update:

Strawberry season is over ! For Blueberries go to SteelbowFarm.com OPEN WEDNESDAY,FRIDAY AND SATURDAY 9-1 i walked out to the strawberry field this afternoon to check for ripening strawberries and came upon 2 families of wild turkeys(about 25 intotal) ambling out toward the field. We had been going out for early morning and late afternoon walks to keep them away and along with all the people picking in the field they had been keeping in the hedgerows.Somehow they knew that there are very few berriees leftafter a heavy picking day on Saturday and so they have reclaimed the field to call an end to the picking season. In 1994,31n years ago, we planted 1/8 of an acre by hand with the help of some friends, some good food and a snow storm. From then on the strawberries became an annual retreat andand destination for many families and as we grew so they came.thank you all for your support over the years and for picking the berries so that we could be out working in next years field.i cannot sign off on this last hurrah without expressing heartfelt gratitude to the many people who have labored here in those years: planting, hoeing , sweating, weeding, picking , helping customers, laughing, layuing out irrigation pipe , stacking straw....and to Columbia Land Conservancy, Equity Trust, Dutchess Land Conservancy and Scenic Hudaon to help us formulate a plan to keep the farm in perpetuity for farmers so that they may feed the community. So to name a few: daughters Lila and Rose and their families, David, Mac, Ron,Beth Alexii, Vilma,Wendy,Lael, the Smeele sisters, Ed,Pedro,Maxine,Annie,Lilah,Betsy,Paul,John,Peter,Justin,Peter,Rozey,Andrew, Ben, Allison,Rik,Manolo,Santos,Sam,Stefan,Otter,Sarah,Kelci,Vincent,Willow,Karli,Li,Marissa,Tom...It is with great sadness and gratitude that i sign off here,be well, take care of each other and welcome Jason and Finnegan the next farmersto tend to this beautiful place and with hopes that they may flourish.Save Seed,Spread Love,Marnie
